Tomorrow  (October 9, 1940-December 8, 1980) would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday...hard to believe, since he will forever be 40 years old in our memories...

...BEATLE stories in the news...

Paul McCartney plays gig at tiny London club
LONDON, Fri Dec 17, 02:32 PM

Former Beatle Paul McCartney played his smallest gig in more than a decade Friday in a bid to save a landmark London club faced with closure because of a steep rent increase.

McCartney played a lunchtime show before about 300 fans at the 100 Club in central London, wooing the crowd with "Magical Mystery Tour," "All My Loving" and a host of other favorites.

It marked the first time McCartney had played the 100 Club, which once hosted the Rolling Stones, the Who, Metallica and others, including American jazz great Louis Armstrong.

"Who wants to save the 100 Club?," McCartney asked fans after he and his band walked on stage singing an a cappella version of "Hey Jude."

Tickets for the gig cost 60 pounds ($90). Fans started lining up hours before the show in hopes of getting a seat.

"It's a great little venue so we were happy to be part of the campaign to save it. It's too good to lose," McCartney said after the concert. "We had a great time. It's great playing those little clubs and the audience is so up close - it's like you're having dinner with them."

Ian Smith, who waited in line to attend, said he had been listening to McCartney for decades. He said he was drawn to the show by McCartney's astonishing longevity.

"I'm 47-years-old now," he said. "I was 5 when I first got into The Beatles and so I've followed him all my life really. He's had some ups and downs but he's a stayer and at 68 years old you've got to hand it to the guy, he still known how to do it."

Lennon's 'Abbey Road' suit among auction items
NORWALK, Conn., Fri Dec 17, 01:35 AM

The white, two-piece suit John Lennon wore on the cover of the Beatles' "Abbey Road" album will be among items auctioned in Connecticut less than a month after the 30th anniversary of the singer-songwriter's death.

The suit, the blazer Lennon wore in the "Imagine" music video and a 1972 Chrysler station wagon that once belonged to Lennon and Yoko Ono are among the memorabilia being auctioned by Braswell Galleries of Norwalk, Conn., on New Year's Day.

Auction house co-owner Gary Braswell tells The Hour newspaper that the suit's current owner decided to sell after experiencing some economic hardship. He did not disclose the seller's name.

Braswell said he did know how much the wool-blend suit would fetch, but noted that the suit and blazer together sold for $120,000 in 2005.

John and Paul were great and all, but I'm one of those rare "George" people you hear so little about. Not so much his 80's output, but his singing in the Beatles and early solo career always turned my head. "All Things Must Pass" is a great album too. His teaming-up with Clapton on "My Guitar Gently Weeps" is incredible. He first caught my attention when I found out he did the vocals for "Something". At that time, I had no idea he contributed to the songwriting. "What is Life" is one of the best songs ever recorded by anyone.
His birthday is exactly two months after Christmas day and he'd be turning 68 next February if he was still with us.

John would've been 70? My own father is 69 and it astounds me how different their views are (were) for being men of the same age growing up in the same time period. My Dad was born in Philly but his family was from Liverpool.

I love all the Beatles to be sure, but my favorite was George too! His songs with the group were sublime, and I agree "All Things Must Pass" is a great album. There are some other post-Beatle works of his that I like..."Dont Let Me Wait Too Long" from the album "Living In The Material World" comes to mind...

...And his son Dhani looks so much like and sounds so much like his dad! Its uncanny!  He's been busy with various projects...
